The Tooth Fairies

Donnie got on the school bus like any other day and ran to sit with his buddy Michael. The two six year olds had much to talk about. Especially since it was their first day of school and Michael lost all his teeth. “How did you loss your teeth Michael?” asked Donnie.  “I got beat up by three goblins with yellow eyes and hooded robes,” began Michael. “Yea right! You just got lucky and the tooth fairies came and bartered you with more money,” laughed Donnie. “I’m telling you the truth!” “How do you know they were goblins?” asked Donnie. “Because I escaped from them and turned on the lights. I saw their leather green skin and beak like mouths,” replied Michael. Donnie just looked at his best friend and all the teeth he was missing. “They took all my teeth and said that they’re coming for you!” “How did they get in your room?” asked Donnie. “They come from under our beds, from an underworld of goblins that turn teeth into gold nuggets.” said Michael.

Michael didn’t say anything for the rest of the school bus ride. He tried to forget about it at recess, but after he was finished playing soccer the tooth fairies entered his mind. The day at school came to a close when he arrived back home and felt relieved that the day was over.

Donnie walked inside the door and was greeted by his mother. “Hello honey,” she smiled as she hugged him. “How was school?” “Fine, mother is there such thing as a tooth fairy?” he asked.  “Of course sugar pops,” replied his mother.  “Why do you got wiggly teeth that need to be pulled?” Donnie covered his mouth and then renounced it, “yes I do mommy.” His mother kneeled down and pulled out her hand. “Let me wiggle it dear,” she said. Donnie opened up his mouth and felt his mother wiggle his tooth. “Oh it’s loose. You never know the tooth fairy may come tonight and take it and give you a quarter for it.” “That’s what I’m afraid of mommy, Michael said that he was visited by three goblins with yellow eyes and they beat him up and took all the teeth in his mouth.” “No honey he was just saying that to get you scared,” said his mother. “But mom all his teeth were gone.” “Donald he probably had them taken out from all the junk food and cotton candy he ate at the fair. Little boys that get spoiled like that by their parents rot their teeth out and he told you a whole heap of garbage to get you all worked up. No, the tooth fairy isn’t going to rip out all your teeth,” she chuckled. “Wow thanks for telling me mommy now I won’t be scared anymore,” he replied as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Donnie ate supper with his mom and watched a movie that suddenly reminded him of the goblins that Michael described. His mother walked over to the television and turned it off, “I want you to get ready for your bath you’ve watched enough of this garbage to have nightmares.” Donnie got ready for his bath and after he was done dressed himself in his pajamas and was tucked into bed. His mother went to bed to prepare for tomorrow.

The night was quiet and the hours were long.  The ringing in his ears persisted until suddenly he heard something crawl under his bed.  Donnie began biting his fingernails and looked around the room. His mother was in bed and wouldn’t be able to save him. All of a sudden three little creatures wearing raggedy robs with funny little hats came out from under his bed.  “Is this the right room boss?” said one of them as he lit a candle while the other two lit theirs. “Of course this is the right place Right Wing,” said the boss.  “I don’t know boss. Every time we go into another little boy’s bedroom I get confused we’re in the wrong one.” “Shut up Left Wing! This is the right place,” replied the boss as he turned around to point at Donnie.  Donnie began crying as he saw all three of the goblins approach him.  They slowly crawled up on his bed and smile at him with their green skin, pointed teeth and glowing yellow eyes. “Nice Donnie, good little Donnie, all we want is your teeth, chuckled Right Wing. “Quickly hold him down while I get the tools,” ordered the boss. Right Wing and Left Wing covered the boys mouth and held his arms down while the boss pulled out a strange contraption that looked like a pliers. “Now this won’t hurt a bit,” assured the boss as he smiled and began putting the device in the boy’s mouth to grip one tooth at a time. Donnie began crying and did everything to fight back, but the boss began to get angry and punched him in the face and continued to pull his other incisors, then the surrounding teeth until finally he was toothless. “Good boy,” laughed the boss as he patted him on the cheek then clocked him hard to make him cry. Quickly the goblins ran under the bed and chuckled. “Ohh one last spoiled brat to worry about,” said Left Wing.  Donnie let out a wail like no other and then his mother cascaded through the door to see blood all over his pillow and blankets.  “What in heavens happened dear child?” “The creatures came and took my teeth,” cried Donnie.  His mother opened his mouth and couldn’t believe all his teeth were gone.

The next morning Donnie sat next to Michael and the two were quiet and looked at each other petrified and just knew that the tooth fairies had paid them a visit to collect their teeth.  Michael leaned over to whisper in Donnie’s ear, “told you they were coming for you.”
